What is YVolunteer?
YVolunteer links young people with community organisations that need volunteers. We find out what community organisations want and what young volunteers are interested in, and then match them up. The Yvolunteer program (PVWYV) is now endorsed by the Curriculum Council. On successful completion of the program students will gain one credit point towards their WACE. Please note that schools have to REGISTER in order for students to gain the credit point. Please contact, Melusha on 9482 4399 or use the online contact form for more information on how to register. Students can undertake activities in the community or within the school.
Volunteering benefits young people by:
- expanding their life experience
- creating a greater degree of tolerance and understanding of others
- giving them opportunities to develop new skills and community awareness
- increasing their confidence and self esteem
- helping them to develop a sense of responsibility
- giving them an experience that can be included in their résumé or CV
- providing an understanding of the diversity of lifelong experiences available through volunteering
Who runs YVolunteer?
YVolunteer is run by the Youth Services staff at Volunteering WA, a non-profit organisation that helps bring together volunteers and community organisations.
We have over 400 member community organisations with over 700 volunteer positions available.
Volunteering WA also runs training courses for organisations, special programs for senior volunteers and special events for volunteers and organisations. Contact the Youth Services staff by ringing 08 9482 4399 or by using the online contact form.
How can this web site help me?
The Teachers section is designed to help teachers learn about the concept of volunteering, implementing a service program at their school, and link to interesting resources that may help in the classroom.
The Volunteer section is geared towards young people, and its aim is to inspire them to think about the issues they care about and show them how to help their community.
The Agencies section of the web site is designed to support agencies that wish to take on young volunteers. It goes through the processes involved and any issues that may arise.
